Woke up in Kingston is a great break out track for the new group I DO. “I DO” is comprised of Grammy winning singer/songwriter J Lauryn and multi-platinum artist producer and DJ, Trackdilla who represents Africa. As mentioned both artists have very decorated solo careers and come together to grow their already successful discographies. Being that both artists come from different areas in the world culturally it’s great to hear such diversity in today’s music.
“Woke Up In Kingston’ crosses multiple genres of music and makes for a really good listen. Trackdilla’s production provides a tropical vibe for a dark love story told by the strong vocals from J Lauryn. I DO tells Billboard Mag that “Woke up In Kingston” is about a love story with someone who is not living their truth and not being their true self, everything comes full circle when they gain self-awareness and make finding themselves a bit easier.
J Lauryn speaks on the groups formation:
“I feel like a lot of people from a different cultural backgrounds will enjoy or music because it combines so many unique sounds and ideas.”
Audio for “Woke Up In Kingston” released in mid-July and has quickly amassed over a half million streams across all major platforms. After releasing “Woke Up In Kingston” visuals the newly formed group I DO takes a short break to focus on their debut project which is set to drop in 2019. The “Woke Up in Kingston” video is a modern day Bonnie and Clyde story which features a number of plot twists and a masterful story line. The new track sets the tone for the end of the summer and also sets the tone for the creativity we can expect from the newest group I DO.
