Yohji Yamamoto is one of the most creative high-end clothing and footwear designers of this current generation. Some might argue that he’s not credited enough for taking some of the bold design risks we’ve seen become popular in recent history. Luckily, the trefoil gang has provided him with an entire department that allows his footwear curations to become a reality in the adidas Y-3 division of the German athletic apparel brand. Now, we’re getting a look into the future with this brand new adidas Y-3 SS19 Collection featuring both adidas Y-3 silhouettes, new and old.
The adidas Y-3 SS19 Collection that debuted during the Y-3 Fashiaris, Frace recently unveiled four different sneakers including the adidas Y-3 Ratio Racer BOOST, the adidas Y-3 Runner 4D II, the adidas Y-3 Kaiwa, and lastly, the adidas Kasabaru.
First up, the adidas Y-3 Ratio Racer BOOST, which is probably the most aesthetically pleasing and recognizable to casual sneaker fans. The sneaker features a ‘Core Black’ Primeknit woven base with white speckled threading found throughout the base of the kicks, a complex lacing system works in conjunction with webbed synthetic supportive accessories as the kicks are closed out by a form-fitting ankle collar, white BOOST-infused midsole, and black rubber outsole.
The adidas Y-3 Runner 4D II’s most notable feature is its webbed 3-D printed midsole but the base of the silhouette is one of the most complexly beautiful paneled sneakers soon to be on the market today. The kicks feature a ‘Footwear White’ Primeknit woven base complete with an intricately detailed wide-set lacing system that also acts as a heel stabilizer. Black and grey details located at the ankle collar provide the silhouette with contrast as the sneaker is closed out with a black rubber outsole as well.
The adidas Y-3 Kaiwa is one those high-end sneakers that has the look and possible performance capabilities of an actual basketball sneaker but that has yet to be proven to the general public. This rendering of the sneaker features a ‘Footwear White’ leather base complete with an assortment of connective embroidery found throughout the base of the kicks, double layered shoelace eyelets, high arching tongue and ankle collar detailing, a breathable mesh heel panel and counter, and of course, a thick chunky sole unit to close out the sneaker.
Lastly, the brand new adidas Y-3 Kasabaru also takes on a basketball sneaker silhouette aesthetic and sticks to a common theme of curvaceous and semicircular detailing that the eye casually follows without noticing. features what appears to be a ‘Core Black’ nylon base complete with a matching black leather toe box, supportive high-cut ankle collar, extricated semicircular lacing eyelets and lacing system that also acts as heel stabilizers as the silhouette is closed out by a chunky sole unit.
Not only does the adidas Y-3 SS19 Collection feature a plethora of high-end sneaker options, these silhouettes offer a wide array of brand new adidas technology including lightweight adiZERO technology, of course, Digital Light Synthesis utilized for the 3D-printed construction of the adidas Y-3 FutureCraft, GORE-TEX, and more.
