This is his latest song entitled “Why You Mad” featuring Jayellz!

For those who don’t know who you are you?

My name is Adrian Gamboa and I am a 24 year old music artist based out of the Inland Empire/ Los Angeles Area. I produce, record, engineer and do design work for all of the music I release and have been doing so for about 10+ years now.

Does your name have a meaning to it ?

I always felt like using my own name was better than coming up with one so I’ve always just gone by it. People started calling me AG, which are my initials, when I was in high school releasing music and it sort of just stuck with me through college until now. I used to go by that with the music but it was always harder to find myself online with so many AG’s out there so I decided to just go by my full name. I think I’ve just always wanted to be able to be myself and represent my art in the most authentic and transparent way possible.

How would you describe your sound?

It’s tough to put a description over it to be honest since it’s all over the place in a way. I’m heavily inspired by Kanye West and J. Cole, mainly because of the fact that they are producers and vocal artists as well so I’ve always related to them in that sense and have been a fan of their production style. I like soulful music, sampling and heavy drums/ bass lines. I like creating records outside of that though and try to dive into other styles that are more popular now just to show that I can be versatile. For me it’s always been about making music that I enjoy but I think over time I’ve tried to develop being able to release completely different records that still somehow relate to each other on a production level. As far as the style of rap, it’s definitely conversational and as relatable as possible. I’m a fan of technical rap and have studied the history of Hip Hop but I’ve always felt like conversational rap resonates the most with people.

When did you realize you wanted to be in the music industry?

To me it’s never really been about being in the Music Industry specifically. I think I’ve just always enjoyed creating art and get happiness from creating things for other people to feel a certain way about. Music just happened to be the thing that I felt I did best at and so It’s become a constant goal to create for people as much as possible from now, on a small scale, until wherever it leads in the future. It could easily become something else one day and who knows maybe I’ll start painting or creating in other ways.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever been given?

I think the best advice that I’ve ever been given is to just do what feels right. That could relate to the music or my personal life. I think we tend to be happier when we follow that instinct.

What’s your favorite food?

I love sushi. I think I’d have to pick that over everything else to be honest.

What type of Oreos do you like lol?

I think the original flavor is the best. I haven’t had Oreos in awhile though so now I want some.

Where is one place you want to visit?

I’ve always wanted to visit New York. There are a lot of other place that come to mind right now with this response but I think New York would be at the top of the list.

Who’s the most played artist on your phone right now?

I’ve been listening to Post Malone’s new album a lot since it came out so as of this past week it’s probably him. I’m sure next week it will be something else though.

Where were you when you first heard your song on radio?

I was at my friend’s house in Riverside and we were just hanging out. I knew what time it was going to come on so when that time came we went out to the car and waited for it to play.

How long you been doing music?

I’ve been doing music since I was 13 years old so just about 10-11 years now.

Tell me about your latest record right now?

The latest record we put out is called “Why You Mad” and it features another artist from the I.E. named Jayellz who is someone who I think is dope. The record is a cocky, fun, hype record that is sort of like an anthem against people who always give an opinion without providing a solution. I think that something that comes with being an artist and putting yourself out there so much is that people create this impression in their mind of what they think your art should be. Criticism is always welcomed and in my opinion should be listened to, but you can definitely tell when someone is trying to tear down rather than build up. This past record was inspired by conversations in social situations where I knew people were just giving an opinion from a position of misunderstanding. I think everyone gets comments on their lifestyle and person at times so this record was meant to relate to the cliché idea of having “haters”. As overplayed as the idea is, it’s relatable for a reason.

How was the whole process?

The process behind the record was interesting because I actually had made the instrumental about a year ago or so. I invited Jayellz over to my house months later to start working on a song and I just started playing him beats I had made. I actually came across that one as an accident because originally I was going to save that beat for myself alone but as soon as we started working on it I thought it would be cool to go back and forth on the verses for 8 bars each. The first part I added was the “Why you hating why you mad?” lines for the chorus and he did his first verse and then over the next couple of months I added my verses and he added his last one. I had that song for quite awhile before putting it out.

Is there still unheard music from you that we should expect again soon

Yeah, I’ll actually be dropping a new record before the month ends titled “Fake Friends”. I’ve played it for some friends and they think it’s one of the best songs I’ve produced and recorded but I guess I’ll see what other people make of it. I have other records to follow that too.

You’re from the Inland Empire, who was your inspiration to rep and lead the way?

This probably the toughest question to answer on here because I’ve never really put thought into it. I think I’ve just done my best to create art that would resonate with people around me in some way and if it has happened, even on a smaller scale, it has just been a byproduct of that effort. I think coming out from the Inland Empire has been an interesting thing to think about because the majority of music culture in California is all geared to LA so nobody ever REALLY thinks about the I.E. like that. I guess we will see what the future holds though, I’m just going to continue to focus on creating and releasing content and representing.

Are we expecting to see an album soon?

I’ve been focused on putting out singles lately but I think I’ll start working on a project soon. I think that with the way people digest music now it has just made more sense to release singles but a project will definitely come out in the future. Right now I just want to focus on each song one by one and connecting with people as much as possible both online and in person.

Who’s going to be the next person you are going to collab with?

I’ve been wanting to work with as many people as possible so I’m sure I’ll be collaborating with more local artists as well as reaching out to other artists outside of where I am that I think are dope.

Who’s your dream collab?

I think I’d have to say Kanye West. Just based on artistry overall in Hip Hop and production as well, I think working on a project in the same room with him would be incredible.

Is there anything else you want to let everyone know?

I’m sure there is a lot that I could add as a response to this question but to be honest I’d rather leave that up to time. I want people to get to know me through the music and relate on a human level. My only goal is to be impactful/ influential in a positive way and make life better for people around me. That’s what I’ve always felt is my purpose with doing the music and creating art overall. Thank you for the interview.
