Bun B told Hip Hop DX that he has been working on new music.

In an article published to Hip Hop DX earlier today, Ju shared some news from an exclusive chat with the legendary Bun B. Apparently, Hip Hop DX caught up with Bun B in Texas after he had performed for The Recording Academy Texas Chapter during SXSW. Being a Texas native, Bun B said, “…I wanted to show them I appreciated being let on board this year. This is a way for me to introduce myself to literally hundreds of other Academy members in one room. And why not do that in Texas, right?” Furthermore, Bun B also spoke on life apart from record deals, Big K.R.I.T.’s contribution to the upcoming project, and the difference in having to hit the pavement to sell music versus digital distribution.

“It was refreshing to be in the position to make music because I wanted to not because I had to… because I was signed to a record company… so for a while I just didn’t record at all and just laid back… watched my grand kids grow up…”

Though, this sort of collaboration is new, Bun B and Big K.R.I.T. have worked together in the past.

Bun B’s “Cake” track featured Big K.R.I.T, Boosie, and the late Pimp C. There’s also Big K.R.I.T.’s “Shine On” track featuring Bun B among some other shared previous work.

Big K.R.I.T. is apparently contributing vocals, production, and some creative direction to Bun B’s upcoming album though.

“I’m actually using Big K.R.I.T. as my musical coordinator… This album is crazy… I don’t think people are really gonna have an idea of what I’m coming with… There’s going to be songs from me that you would expect but there’s going to be a level of depth… I’m thinking of naming this album after my real name, Bernard, because this is a side of myself that took basically 43 years to get to… to really be able to lay everything out… This is what everything has been, this is what everything will be…”

With the talented Big K.R.I.T. assisting, and Bun B’s historically acclaimed gifts, this collaborative effort is bound to bless the game.
