Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood was DMX’s second studio album. Released under Def Jam Records and his own label Ruff Ryders, the album dropped December 22nd, 1998.
This was DMX’s second album of the year and that was unheard of. At the beginning of 1998, he dropped his debut album It’s Dark and Hell is Hot. It’s not like today where rappers have everything easily and readily at their disposal and can put it out as they please. Not only was this his second album of the year, this was his second PLATINUM album of the year. It moved 670,000 units in the first week and stayed #1 on the Billboard 200 for 3 consecutive weeks.
You can mark the year 1998 as the beginning of DMX’s legendary run in hip-hop. The run spanned from 1998 to about 2001. That run consisted of classic albums, classic records, monster numbers, and huge impact. The word impact shouldn’t be thrown around lightly. He had a crowd of what looked like 100,000 people at Woodstock ’99 rapping every word of the Ruff Ryders Anthem. This was at a time where hip-hop wasn’t the most mainstream form of music like it is today.
Happy 19th Birthday Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.
