It’s been 20 years since Jay-Z dropped his second LP In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.  After his debut album Reasonable Doubt, he had to follow up with something really well.  So out comes Volume 1.

He used some of the producers he had on Reasonable Doubt for this album such as DJ Premier, but the majority was done by Bad Boy’s “The Hitmen”.  That gave this album a smoother, cleaner feel.  The album also had features from Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Babyface, Blackstreet, Teddy Riley, Too $hort, and Puff Daddy.

This was one of Jay-Z’s smoother albums earlier in his career.  The album had a very smooth cohesive feel, showcasing his effortless flow and rhyming ability, making it an easy listen.

Happy 20th to In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.
