Soulja Slim was killed on November 26, 2003, but not before he left his mark on music.

When you hear the way Master P met Slim, it is almost easy to understand how Soulja pushed his way into the hearts of Hip Hop Heads all over. Master P detailed the encounter in an interview with Hip Hop DX years later. He said he met Slim while Slim was trying to rob P’s producer. Slim went on to say that he was changing his life and no longer using drugs. Master P offered to help Slim with his music and Slim went on to work with No Limit Records. Miller said he “couldn’t turn him down” because of Slim’s style.

Miller even said that Soulja “was Pac” to him.

On this day in 2003, though, Slim was shot and killed in front of his mother’s house the day before Thanksgiving- taking some of this promise with him. He was only 26 years old at the time. Also, according to XXL and The Source, the case is still considered unsolved. His contributions to Hip Hop continue to be celebrated through his fans.

Ultimately, Slim’s spirit lives on in his music and his fans. Here’s a playlist in honor of this legacy:

Rest up, Soulja.
