On this day, 6 long years ago, Tha Carter IV dropped, marking the last of Tha Carter series to date.

He released the album via his own label Young Money, Cash Money, and Universal Republic Records.  Wayne began recording this album in 2008, pretty much right after the release of arguably one of his best albums Tha Carter III.  However, he ceased recording because he didn’t want to follow up an album of that magnitude so quickly.  Instead, he recorded two projects in between.  Those projects were Rebirth and I Am Not a Human Being, releases in 2010.  If you remember he served a prison sentence in Rikers Island from 2008 to about 2010 for illegal possession of a firearm, that slowed down the release of the project.

After being released from incarceration, he started the album from scratch.  With a slew of producers from 40 (OVO), Boi-1da, Kanye West, T-Minus and many more, and some heavy hitting features from Nas, Andre 3000, Shyne, Busta Rhymes, Tech N9ne and more, the album generated 6 singles; “6 foot 7 foot” featuring Cory Gunz, “John” featuring Rick Ross, “How To Love”, “She Will” featuring Drake, “It’s Good” featuring Drake and Jadakiss, and “Mirror” featuring Bruno Mars.

Within the first four days online, the album was downloaded on iTunes 300,000 times breaking a record previously set by Watch The Throne.  It went on to sell 964,000 copies in the first week.  The album is currently triple platinum.
