Hot 97 kicked off their second “Who’s Next” of the year with Matt Paterson, Marvin Dolo, Pm, Jay Watts, Elijah the Boy and Jacquees. Special thanks to TT Torez for putting the whole thing together. Dj Juanyto & Shani Kulture also did their part to keep the fans engaged and responsive throughout the whole night.
Matt Paterson topped off the night with a great performance. An R&B musician out of New York who has been seen in the studio with Dave East, Wiz Khalifa & Jahlil Beats. Matt performed his unreleased tracks “Run”, “Better” and “My Luck”; all of which will be featured on his upcoming project Better, dropping next month, with a video to come soon, as well. The crowd were really into his ability to effortlessly hit high notes and took a liking to his smooth unique sound. If you haven’t heard of Matt Paterson, there’s no doubt you will next month after the release of his first project of the year. You can follow Matt on his Instagram page for updates on his new music.
Marvin Dolo lit up the SOB stage after Matt, performing his tracks “Got That Feeling” & “All the Time”. He also blessed the crowd with an unreleased track that was seemingly loved from start to finish. As soon as Marvin came with unique energy & unmatched confidence, with a very large fan base following ;and judging from the vibes in the crowd he definitely made some new ones.
Pm was one of the most impressive acts of the night – my opinion as performed his tracks “Lafs”, “Swimming Pools”, “Hate Loving You”, “Accidents & Big Guns”. His sound can be compared to Neyo & Usher. He really took the night with his high notes and catchy singles, most of which directed to the ladies in the audience. Pm is a talented vocalist and proved himself to be a very special force to come.
Jay Watts was also a performance to remember as the Jersey artist most known for his hit tracks “Single Friends” , “Live Life” & “My Dreams” all of which were performed for the energetic & responsive NYC crowd at SOB’s. He took time out of his performance to offer some free treats for the fans and to thank TT Torez for giving him the opportunity to rock the stage. After the show, Jay posted a personal photo with his mother and brought his fans back to a time when he was young and his mother was the only person to believe in him. “It’s always funny when I’m performing to see my mom with the youth. lol love you mom.” He continued: “She spent 700 for me to record my first demo when I was 13 , you the goat.” It isn’t hard to tell that Jay Watts has a very bright future ahead of him.
Elijah the Kid, like the others, had a stellar performance as well, performed tracks from his latest project 2:14 AM, including the smash hit “Easy“, a feel good track where Elijah reflected on his life and explains that no matter how it looks, the life he’s living isn’t easy. Similar to Drake’s “God’s Plan”, from the start to finish, the crowd definitely wanted more.
Jacquees ended the night strong, performing his smash radio hits “B.E.D” , “Set it Off” & “Come Thru”, and also performed “At the Club” which features Dej Loaf; the video is currently sitting comfortably at 28 million views on YouTube alone. Not only did he perform his tracks, but he also had a set of backup dancers on stage to accompany him during each song. While I think everyone knew that Jaquees could sing, his dance routines were also super on point. The crowd broke into a complete frenzy when he announced he would be releasing a project in the coming months.
A night for the books and I can’t wait to see who’s up next!
