Marching band covers can take any song and transform it into an experience. Jay Rock, TDE rapper decided to put the ability of bands to the test with the announcement of the #JayRock10k challenge.
With his latest album Redemption still circulating charts, Jay Rock announced via Twitter his offer of $10,000 to the band who can create the dopest arrangement of his songs, Win and hit track featured on the Black Panther soundtrack King’s Dead featuring Kendrick Lamar and Future.
The contest, which accepts submissions from high school, college and university bands, began Aug 7th 2018 and will close November 1 2018. The video criteria lists a time limit of four minutes, original work only and the performance be recorded live.
Jay Rock himself will choose the winner of the contest. The official rules state the judging period shall begin on or about November 15, 2018 and end on or about November 30, 2018. Entries will be rated based on originality, execution, musicality and band presentation and Jay Rock’s decision shall be final and conclusive. The winning institution will be awarded the $10,000.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities are definitely the bands to look out for. HBCU bands go viral year after year for their creative renditions of pop, Hip-Hop, rap and R&B’s greatest hits. In fact, Jay Rock specifically called out the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band in his tweet spreading awareness of the $10,000 up for grabs.
