Coming from a place filled broken dreams and shattered beer bottles, One man looks to overcome adversity and climbs the ranks as one of Hiphop’s elite. Born As Kelvin B Brown Jr in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1991, Brown have always had a passion for music dating back to the late 90’s when Brown was in Elementary school. A very smart, quiet and charismatic young man from the south side of Chattanooga, Brown always knew he was going to be a musician with a story to tell. Heavily influenced by the likes of Tip formerly known as T.I, Boosie Badazz, and Young Jeezy, Brown developed the skill of writing and storytelling over rap instrumentals which ultimately made him want to pursue a career in music.
However aside from that the rising act has decided on today to release his brand new single Testimony lucky for us we were able to debut the single and briefly interview the artist
Q.The cover art to your song “Testimony” I think speaks for itself but can have several interpretations. Explain what this cover art means to you and why you chose it?
A: I wanted to raise a few eyebrows with this particular artwork just to pick people brains and make them think. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and showing the world more of who I am as a person and an artist. I know many may have different interpretations but my purpose of using this artwork was to show I’m no longer hiding my pain and scars. The blood represents the pain I have endured over the years and I’m putting that bloody hand over the Bible promising to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. I’m living my truth no matter how harsh it may be and that’s what I’m giving to the world with the song Testimony.
What were some of the trials and tribulations you were experiencing that geared you to write this song? Did you end up figuring matters out?
A: I fell out with friends, I lost my best friend, I was dealing with anxiety and borderline depression while I was writing this song. I just wanted to vent to the world and get it off my chest because I had so much build up at the time. The most important thing I’ve learned over the years was to take things day by day and don’t stress over things I can’t control. No, I don’t have it all figured out yet but I’m working towards it!
Are you an artist that likes to have a message in your music? If so why? Do you think it’s vital that more artist partially hip-hop artist to have positive concepts in their music?
Yes indeed, my music most definitely have a message in it. I think it is very important to have positive concepts just show other different then what they see on television day in and out. We pollute the youth with so much negative and we wonder why they act the way they do. With my music I’m showing that it’s ok to go school, it’s ok to respect and honor your love ones , it’s ok to commitment to one person, and it’s ok not to run to street and get catch up in the system!
What can we expect from you next?
I’ve been writing and recording a lot lately so you can expect a project sometime in the next future. I’m looking to start a tour to travel the United States so I can expose more people to the Kay B Brown brand.
