Every year, BET gathers the top names in Hip Hop and urban culture to celebrate, honor and reward their talents.  An award show that focuses on rap, each year a legend to the rap game takes home a trophy for icons only.  Since 2006 when the BET Hip Hop awards first aired,  the I Am Hip Hop award honored pioneers of the culture.  This year, rapper Lil Wayne joins the golden roster.

Reported by Billboard,  Lil Wayne adds to a list composed of rappers such as KRS-One, LL Cool J, Rakim, Ice Cube, Scarface and more.  Lil Wayne will be the youngest artist to receive this honor and his career has proven worthy.

Winner of five Grammy awards, 15 BET Hip Hop awards, #1 charting albums, successful clothing lines and more, Lil Wayne’s reign in the rap world spans decades.  Fans of Lil Wayne have more than the illustrious announcement to be excited for.

An ongoing, very public, back and forth, love and hate dispute with his record label, and Cash Money head honcho Birdman,  the streets are finally getting The Carter V.  The rapper teased cover art for the long awaited album via social media.
