Los Angeles’ Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue is being renamed in honor of the late Nipsey Hussle, per the Los Angeles City Council.

Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Square is the new name of the intersection.

The news was announced to the public Tuesday of this week in lieu of Hussle’s forthcoming funeral service that will be held on Thursday, April 11

The intersection is representative of where Hussle shifted the ambiance as a community activist, flourished as an entrepreneur, and developed some of the core characteristics that enabled him to become the virtuoso we’ve come to know. It’s also the very place where his untimely death transpired.

As a father, brother, and son, Nipsey was a rock helping to build an empire that will continue through generations. Nipsey will always be remembered for delivering a pure, authentic Los Angeles sound, his numerous philanthropic efforts, his innovative, community-focused business mindset, and his humble heart,” said Los Angeles Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson.

Politicians, members of law enforcement, celebrities and residents all alike have mourned the loss of Ermias Asghedom. In the same breath, his death has triggered a ripple-effect of initiatives that take on a progressive approach in carrying out the many messages Hussle conveyed throughout the context of his music and life

Nipsey’s legacy will live on through the display of empowerment exemplified by coming together for a greater cause.

May the marathon continue.
