After his arrest for a double murder charge stemming from an alleged staged killing, South Florida rapper YNW Melly’s music has peaked in streams.
“Murder on My Mind” had accrued over 800K daily plays since Melly’s arrest. Before the arrest, the song was getting an estimated 400K plays per day. The song now sits at No. 12 on the chart’s top 200 and No. 1 on Apple Music. (as reported by XXL)
With Melly’s current legal troubles, the internet has increased speculation surrounding the lyrics from the song, hinting at a possible confession/recollection of the artist killing one of his friends.
The referenced lyrics read, “Yellow tape around his body, it’s a fucking homicide/His face is on a T-shirt and his family traumatized/I didn’t even mean to shoot him, he just caught me by surprise/I reloaded my pistol, cocked it back, and shot him twice/His body dropped down to the floor and he got teardrops in his eyes/He grabbed me by my hands and said he was afraid to die/I told him it’s too late, my friend, it’s time to say good bye/And he died inside my arms, blood all on my shirt.“
Whether or not the lyrics allude to something that may have transpired in the past, the grim detailed unveiling of a traumatic experience leaves an eerie feeling.
The authorities stated that allegedly Melly is the triggerman and that his assailant YNW Bortlen helped stage the scene to appear as a drive-by. Both men are in police custody and have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
No bond has been awarded to either of the two.
With details in the case still being released, you can only anticipate what the end results will be.
