Writers write.

It’s what they do, no matter the form, the genre, or the season.

Which is why there is no surprise that Nas, one of the top five lyricists of our generation is publishing a book, a children’s book. The Illmatic artist has announced via his Instagram that he is coming out with a children’s book series. The first book being released is entitled “I Know I Can” via his MAJR kids brand, a brand under Nas’ media and content company Mass Appeal.

The series will be based on the 2002 God’s Son single “I Can.” Oddly enough, this is the same single that RollingStone referred to as “a silly stay-in-school ad attached to a Beethoven sample” back at the time. However, it seems as if the material has aged well and can be repurposed into a book to fit the MAJR brand mission:

TO INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH THE CREATION OF UNIQUE TOYS, APPAREL, AND INNOVATIVE LEARNING TOOLS. MAJR IS HERE TO REFLECT THE DIVERSE HUES OF BOTH THE MODERN FAMILY AND POPULAR CULTURE, BECAUSE EDUCATION STARTS IN THE CRIB.

Motivated to convince children to go after their ambitions, goals, and dreams, together with illustrator Michael Lukowski, Nas will manifest the belief rapped in his 2002 lyrics by using this new venture to unleash the full potential of child readers.
