Hip Hop’s favorite black Santa and luxury enthusiast Rick Ross is back in prime form with new album “Port Of Miami 2.” Being the followup to his incredibly successful 2006 debut Port Of Miami, this album had huge standards to live up to and Ross delivers.

Ross maintains a sense of youth in his early 40s with raps with obscene boasts, basses with a boat ride in the Miami docks on a summer night type of feel,  and a rags to riches story line. Miami’s Teflon Don is back in good form. The album has heavy hitting guest appearances from Drake, the late Nipsey Hussle, Meek Mill, YFN Lucci, Summer Walker, Teyana Taylor, and more.

Dock On The Port Of Good Music

Cruise down the highway track such as Summer Reign  ft. Summer Walker, “White Lines,” “Turnpike Ike,” “Act A Fool” ft Wale, and “Rich N*gga Lifestyle” ft. the late Nipsey Hussle and Teyana Taylor gives such a nostalgic 2009 feeling to me and I’m all for it. Ross also shows maturation on this album with the track “I Still Pray” ft. YFN lucci and Ball Greezy, in which he gets reflective about being found unresponsive last year. He even had some harsh words for the health care system in the track “Vegas Residency”:

Another seizure, so I woke up in intensive care/Pray  you treat a poor man like he was a millionaire.

“Running The Streets” Ft. Denzel Curry and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie might be Rick Ross’ most powerful song to date. It’s personally my favorite from the album with great and illuminating versus from Ross and Denzel Curry, and a solid hook from A Boogie. “Bogus Charms” Ft. Meek Mill is a close second because the combination of Ross and Meek Mill talking about loyalty is like prime Shaq and Kobe playing basketball. It’s magical and has a movie feel to it.

Final Verdict

The boss is back in his best form so I shall reward Port Of Miami 2 A:

9/10 Stars Gold
