This one REALLY hurts, man.
Legendary emcee Prodigy, who was one half of the iconic Mobb Deep, has passed away today. He was one of the illest emcees to come out of Queens, one of the illest period.
A publicist for Mobb Deep comfirmed that he was found unconsious this morning and passed away.
Here is a statement from Mobb Deep’s publicist on Prodigy:
“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”
Mobb Deep has been heavyweights in the rap game for over 15 years. Prodigy was always known as a heavyweight emcee. Even in his solo efforts, Prodigy was always on the top of his game. 42 is still young. This hurts.
Let us all bang The Imfamous in his honor today. RIP.
