Quiet as its kept, North Carolina is home to some of the best emcees in hip-hop. Its birthed lyrical beasts like J. Cole, Rapsody, and a newer artist- Jalen Santoy. While Santoy may be the lesser known of the group mentioned, he’s certainly as talented. The Charlotte native grew up with a strong musical influence, especially in Jazz, which is evident in his own music. Santoy is a master at combining his sharp flow with thought-provoking lyricism and entrancing production, as heard on his critically acclaimed 2016 EP- Charlie Eastern.

Now Jalen Santoy is back from a short hiatus with a brand-new video for his latest banger, “DWYGD”. Santoy switches up his style a bit mixing a steady & triplet flow as he raps over the hypnotizing beat created by production duo Burd & Keyz. Directed by David Janoff, the visual is as cold as Santoy’s rhymes with him being shown rapping unfazed during a freezing Toronto winter and taking a chainsaw to ice-bags in a subzero cooler. It’s not the Jalen Santoy we’re used to but a welcomed change of pace hearing him in his rapper bag about women, jewelry, and his accomplishments. “DWYGD”, which stands for “Do What You Gon’ Do”, is Jalen Santoy doing just that. It doesn’t have to make sense to us, he’s always going to do what works for him while letting us know he has the ability to shake stuff up at any moment!

Check out the premiere of Jalen Santoy’s dope new video for “DWYGD” now!
