The Brooklyn Singer-Songwriter Is Ready To Revive R&B with A New Sound
NEW YORK, NY | “Anywhere you are in the world, you can feel the presence of someone who’s from New York,” Brooklyn singer-songwriter Ryan says. “It’s a different type of confidence.” His panache comes from an amalgam of charisma, wit, and fearlessness when it comes to wearing his heart on his sleeve. And it’s evident in his music.
“The up-and-comer’s flow is as tight as any of today’s top tier rappers, but with its own spice courtesy of Ryan’s melodic undertones.” —Billboard
Though Ryan does rap a bit on “Pull Up,” the majority of this offering showcases him as a singer. “I’m just excited to give people good music,” he says. “R&B isn’t so much skill and vocals right now.” He’s disappointed by the formulaic production that has consumed the airwaves today. “It’s slowed-down beats with ‘90s samples and talking over the record—not even singing. It sounds dope…” He’s just anxious to bring back the sound he admires. “The Isleys, R. Kelly, New Edition—they had stacks of harmonies and layers.”
