BMI- a top music rights management organization- recently honored some of the most successful R&B and Hip Hop Artists of our time.

BMI currently represents “12 million musical works created and owned by more than 750,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers” according to their official website. However, only three days ago, this “global leader” recognized a special group of the Artists it represents and protects.

The list of Musicians awarded at the exclusive event range from DJ Khaled, Future, G-Eazy and more. Future, DJ Khaled, and Rihanna were named as Songwriter of the Year. Metro Boomin was called the R&B/Hip Hop Producer of the Year. Further, G-Eazy won a BMI award for Song of the Year. Also, according to XXL, though, not all of the winners appeared in Atlanta to be commemorated. On top of all this, Patti Labelle was praised as the BMI Icon.

With the legendary Patti Labelle being honored, other celebs, such as Tyrese, appeared at the event solely to celebrate this dynamic songstress.

Furthermore, there were even performances from Big Boi, Jacquees, Ledisi, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Rick Ross, and Bebe Winans. Kash Doll, a Hip Hop Artist on the come up out of Detroit, also beat out Dave East and Ayo & Teo as BMI’s Social Star.

“I was feeling like a queen since I’ve heard I was being honored with the Icon Award. When you hear of other people getting certain awards, you say ‘I want that.’ So evidently I grew up old enough that they gave it me… I always say when you get it it’s right on time…”

Ultimatley, the BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards- hosted at The Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall on August 31st- proved to be a night to remember.
