You read that right.

It has been almost five years since the last episode of the critically acclaimed series but it seems brand new The Boondocks adventures are on the way. Creator Aaron McGruder just released a message via Charlemagne’s Instagram that said:

“Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say. These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Sueng Kim, who did the animation for the old show- and he’s a busy guy. Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me whole I get my Instagram act together.”

Along with the IG message, McGruder picked up like he never left having Charlamagne post a series of brand new The Boondocks comic strips. Known for its satirical and controversial commentary on everything from hip-hop to political events through the lens of the Freeman family, it was only right to feature Huey, Riley, and Grandad addressing some of the country’s most current events like the Trump Presidency and #MuteRKelly. Of course, Uncle Rukus is back with his self-hating ways as he’s shown being a major Trump supporter in 2019. It hasn’t been confirmed if new Boondocks will be as a TV series or comic strips, but either way we’re excited for the return of an outlet that was never afraid to challenge and critique our society, culture, and community. If you’re here for new Boondocks, drop a #BoondocksBack in the comments! Check out a preview of new Boondocks comics below. Catch the rest on Charlemagne’s Instagram.
