Since dropping his mixtape Central Ave Minnesota, artist Taylor J has been making serious moves in the game. He has continued working hard by dropping 5 additional mixtapes (one produced by legendary producer Lex Luger) and also releasing his debut album Who Would’ve Thought.
“That money always on my mind, how could I forget.”
“Hunnits” which is off of Who Would’ve Thought, serves to show the world exactly who Taylor J is as an artist and when asking him about his inspiration for the video he says:
“The video is real important to me and my city. My neighborhood in particular. I’m showing things like Rondo Days and certain neighborhoods and people that have never been seen by other people. Putting light on what we have to offer as a city , as a community. Rest in Peace to SHOTTY BOO and Phiando Castile.”
Rondo Days is an annual festival in mid-July to commemorate the Rondo neighborhood in Minnesota, an African American community split due to the construction of Interstate 94. We can see Taylor enjoying time with his friends at a local function, reminiscing on his past and celebrating how far he has come. The video also pays tribute to Philando Castile, a Minnesota resident who was pulled over for a traffic violation then shot and killed for no reason while his girlfriend and her daughter were in the car.
No matter how successful he becomes, you can still see him staying true to his friends and also his community. Taylor J is a very promising young artist and has had an impressive/rapid come up. No doubt he will continue putting work in to be at the top of the rap game. Who Would’ve Thought Is out now and you can also check out The 91 Family produced by Lex Luger.
