Wyclef Jean was pulled over and arrested in the wee hours this morning in LA after police found that he might have fit the description of an armed robbery suspect in the area as apparently his vehicle and physical description matched.
Extremely pissed upon being pulled over and who can blame him, Wyclef has threatened to sue.
In a statement, he said, “I was asked by the police to put my hands up. Then I was told, ‘Do not move.’ I was instantly hand cuffed before being asked to identify myself and before being told why. In the process I said my name and told them they have wrong person. They proceeded to ignore me and I was treated like a criminal. I am sure no father wants his sons or daughters to see him in Handcuffs especially if he is innocent. As someone who has law enforcers in my family, I was appalled by the behavior of the LAPD.”
You can hear Wyclef in the below video, obviously heated, explaining to the camera being shot by one of the two passengers as to what he said happened.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. believes they did nothing wrong, but conduct their jobs. They claim they were looking for someone with in an old gold or tan Toyota or Honda Sedan, black male and wearing a red or grey bandana around his neck.
The department says, “Due to the violent nature of the call (armed robbery) the similarity of the suspect vehicle to Mr. Jean’s vehicle … and Mr. Jean’s furtive movements and demeanor, he was handcuffed.”
According to TMZ, minutes following Wyclef’s release from the handcuffs, the real suspect was apprehended and taken down at gunpoint.
Granted, we know the police do have a job to do, but Wyclef still has a right to feel how he feels. Who would want to be pulled over for something they did not do, much less put in cuffs for it?
Thank God Wyclef got that cleared up, we know it could have been way worse.
