Lead Track “Goodies” Became Billboard Hot 100’s Longest-Running #1 Debut Single by a Female Artist Since 1977
Certified Classics, Legacy Recordings’ division for the celebration of Sony Music’s groundbreaking Hip-Hop and R&B catalog, is commemorating the 15th anniversary of Ciara’s 2004 debut album Goodies with a brand new interview with the artist looking back on her career, musical evolution and how it all began.
Originally released on September 28, 2004, Goodies debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, selling nearly 150,000 copies in its first week and was later certified 3x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album has sold more than five million copies worldwide, and earned Ciara two Grammy nominations at the 48th Grammy Awards including Best New Artist and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “1, 2 Step” in 2006. “I can’t even believe it’s 15 years ago, it’s blowing my mind,” said Ciara in her interview celebrating the Goodies anniversary. “I had this one song, ‘Goodies,’ and I thought, ‘this is going to change my life.’ That was my attitude and my belief in that song and true indeed, the song came out and it was the perfect way for me to start off my career. I was really proud to be part of the new movement and the new sound that was really created by Lil Jon.”
She continued with, “It was having those bass heavy records, a little more hip-hop leaning, but when you mix it with the pop and R&B melodies, it created a really unique sound. Lil Jon came in with a fresh sound and went against the grain of what traditional pop was for the time period and I was the first girl to do it, so I was really proud of that and will be forever proud of that. I had a lot of attitude then and that attitude hasn’t left.”
